Your records
On your computer.
Nowhere else.
Class Phase was built around one idea: the records you keep about children should stay with the person who keeps them. Everything else follows from that.
No account. No cloud. No upload.
There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to. You open Class Phase the way you open any program on your computer, and your class is there. Nothing you enter is ever sent anywhere — not to us, not to anyone. There is no server on the other end because there is no other end.
It works exactly the same on a plane, in a school with bad wifi, or in a building where the network is down. It never needed the internet in the first place.

One encrypted database, on your own machine
Your class lives in a single database on your computer, encrypted with AES-256 — the same standard banks and governments use. The key that opens it is protected by your computer's own login and by a recovery passphrase you choose. Without one of those, the file is scrambled bytes.
If your laptop is stolen, the thief has a laptop. They don't have your students.
Backups you choose, in a folder you choose
Class Phase makes encrypted backups to wherever you tell it — an external drive, a USB stick, a folder that syncs to somewhere you already trust. Only you decide where they go. The backups are encrypted the same way the database is, so a lost backup drive is as unreadable as a lost laptop.
The app keeps a sensible number of them, tells you the rule it uses right there on the screen, and never deletes a backup file it didn't make itself.
A way back that's yours alone
If your computer dies, you install Class Phase on the new one, point it at a backup, and enter your recovery passphrase — the four or more words you chose on the first day, on a card you kept somewhere safe. That's the whole procedure. There's no support ticket, no account recovery email, no waiting. Your records come back because you hold the key.

Before it restores anything, the app opens the backup, checks it, and tells you exactly what it found:
Nothing on this computer changes until the backup has been opened and checked. If anything is wrong, you will be told and nothing will have moved.
Class Phase, before restoring a backup

Nobody else can see your class
There is no administrator console. There is no dashboard for a principal, a district, or a company. Class Phase doesn't connect to a student information system, a learning platform, or anyone's gradebook portal. Where your school needs something from you, you print it or export it and hand it over yourself — the way you'd hand over a piece of paper.
What leaves, and what doesn't
The only way anything gets out of Class Phase is when you print it or save it as a file. Every document it produces passes through a field-by-field rule about who it's for: a report card carries what a family should see, a substitute sheet carries what a sub should see, an emergency sheet carries what the office should see. Private notes are on no document at all.
Take pickup authorization. When you record that a particular adult may not collect a child, and why, the why is shown to you on your screen — and appears on no printed page. The office sheet says who. It never says why.
